Pawn shops, jewelry stores and other businesses that buy previously owned jewelry, gems and precious metals would have to be licensed by Lawrence Township under an ordinance introduced by Township Council at its Nov. 1 meeting.


NC woman accused of pawning mother's jewelry

LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) Lincoln County authorities are accusing a woman of stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from her mother and pawning it. The Charlotte Observer reports ( http://bit.ly/vZUT49 ) that 27-year-old Kara Ilien Carpenter is charged with felony larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretenses.
